Planned classes for BINC show that there is something for everyone

BetterInvesting National Convention organizers are busy planning another premier event for investor education.  A review of the planned roster of classes for the event in September in Houston shows that there are over seventy class offerings available during the 2 ½ days.  Our education organizers have planned a number of tracks to appeal to any level of BetterInvestor who wants to make more informed decisions.

The Beginners Track provides a closed-class opportunity to complete the beginning curriculum in a personal, supportive environment. This allows you to explore the BetterInvesting stock selection methodology with other beginning investors and ask plenty of questions in class as well as during the hands on computer practice portion of the program. From selecting the best companies to forecasting and then completing a stock selection guide, this track provides a solid grounding in the basic concepts and is perfect for a new club member or interested friend.

The Stock Quality Track is for those people for whom the goal is to improve their ability to select quality stocks.  Solid stock selection forms the basis of a successful diversified portfolio. This track focuses on gaining a greater depth of understanding of corporate financial statements, key ratios, and the relationship between key data by using a visual representation of the data. Also planned are some illustrative examples of ‘good’ and ‘bad’ companies for reference.

The Stock Valuation Track is for those who seek to buy and sell at better prices. These classes focus on analyzing historic valuations, price forecasts and potential return and provide more in-depth  content than a basic class. Attendees will learn more about key valuation ratios like P/E, PEG and Relative Value (RV) as well as how potential returns play a role in purchase and sell decisions. If you are confident in your stock selection but unsure when to buy or have two great candidates and can’t choose where to put your money then this track is something to consider.

The Portfolio Track moves beyond single stock selection using the SSG to analyzing the portfolio as a whole. This track is for those who have some experience in managing multiple stocks and seek to improve their overall portfolio performance.  Classes include information on analyzing your entire portfolio to know when to sell a particular stock, using software tools to help with the decision process as well as the popular live Portfolio Repair Shop class.

The Club Management Track is for club members who seek to optimize their club experience. In many clubs there is a reluctance to take on the job of club treasurer.  If that’s the case for your club, you might want to attend the class specifically on how to simplify the job of the club treasurer. Other class topics how to recruit new members for your club and how to find other resources to make your club run more smoothly.

If your goal is to find some interesting stock ideas, you might be interested in the Case Study Track. These extremely popular set of classes include informal panel discussions where various stock investing ideas are discussed. Are you interested in a discussion on financial stocks or cyclical stocks?

The Tools Track is a track which focuses more on how to use various software tools than the methodology. This track includes classes on familiar software tools like Toolkit, the Online Stock Selection Guide, Stock Prospector and Mutual Fund Tools. It is worth checking out for the attendee who seeks to learn the features, tips and tricks about the tools from the subject matter experts.  These classes also offer plenty of opportunity to ask questions and make connections with other software users.

The Personal Track offers classes for those who are interested in different investment vehicles that may fit within their portfolio.  The wealth of people who have invested in 401k plans through their employer may find the mutual fund classes informative. These classes explain the common facets of mutual funds and provide a look at specific mutual fund data through a ‘BetterInvesting’ lens which concentrates on looking for good quality funds with proven management.

The Options Track provides a full review of options from basic understanding to strategic judgments including tools used for evaluating options. You’ll be able to find out from experienced BetterInvesting members what options are, how they work and discover which options strategies align with BetterInvesting principles.

These descriptions just give a flavor of everything the BetterInvesting Convention has to offer. Be sure to check out all the information at our event site at www.betterinvesting.org/biconvention
